Back acne also known as as “bacne” comes in several forms and sizes and can affect any person between the ages of ten years and older. Similar to other forms of acne, back acne arises when oil glands go into overdrive in the course of adolescence. A group of hormones termed androgens which are present in both females and males become overactive during this period leading to extra production of oil. When excessive oils are created the pores and hair follicles become clogged, blocking dead skins cells from leaving to the surface of the skin. This mixture of extra oil and dead skin cells attract bacteria which in turn lead to the formation of acne.
Back acne can occur as minor pimples or it may also be very severe with sizeable lesions and painful cysts. Some people may just be prone to this disorder while in others it may be brought on by other factors such as tight clothing or from carrying a hefty backpack. Whatever the cause it is much easier to address back acne than to attempt to prevent it because most people have problems with back acne at some point. Skin on the back is a lot thicker and so stronger topical treatments, such as ten percent Benzoyl peroxide may be used without causing injury to the skin. Although this strength of acne may be suitable for use on your back if you have sensitive skin your doctor will advise against using this particular strength.
Skin Care: Makeup & Scars : How to Get Rid of Back Acne Scars
There are several distinct variations in back acne and acne situated elsewhere on the body. For instance:
• Back acne is not normally genetic even though other kinds of acne might be.
• While eating certain types of food could bring about flare-up of existing acne on face and other parts of the body this is not so with back acne. Currently there is no evidence that carbonated beverages, food that are high in fat or other content contributes by any means to back acne.
• Excessive oil production and dirt build up does not have any significant effect on the development of back acne. Perspiring excessively and not washing or showering immediately has been shown to not increase the probability of developing back acne.
• Back acne furthermore doesn’t appear to be affected by stress as other forms of acne.
Using some over the counter medicines may heal breakouts of back acne in circumstances that are not complicated. Skin specialists or dermatologists should treat severe forms of acne on the back, such as cystic acne. Most of the less complicated forms of acne may possibly vanish with daily washing and cleansing routines but as cystic acne goes deep into the skin and can cause permanent scarring, it should be given more serious medical attention than simple pustules or blackheads on the back. Always consult your healthcare provider about treatment before starting a back acne treatment program.
